Factory, The - same-Ganz im Sinne ihrer Vorfahren NEW YORK DOLLS, STOOGES und DEAD BOYS starteten THE FACTORY wie das größte Feuerwerk durch, um schnell auszuglühen und in der Versenkung zu verschwinden. Die Band aus Washington DC regierte in den späten 80ern die Szene, machte den Support für IGGY POP, die RAMONES, PUBLIC IMAGE LTD. und JOHNNY THUNDERS und sorgte bei Fans und Kritikern an der Ostküste für gespitze Ohren. Mit Bandleader Vance Bockis (vorher bei THE OBESSED, 9353 und den Doom Metal Göttern PENTAGRAM) waren THE FACTORY die rotzigen Erben der STONES der 70er und knüpften da an, wo die punkige Dreistigkeit von "Some Girls" und "Tattoo You" aufhörten, um eine explosive Mischung aus Rock'n'Roll, Punk und R&B zusammenzustellen. Leider brach die Band unter Einflüssen von außen 1992 auseinander, ohne offiziell mehr als einen Track auf einer Compilation veröffentlicht zu haben. Der Acetate Chef Rick Ballard hob ein Demo von THE FACTORY auf, das er vor 20 Jahren vom Gitarristen Robbie Limon bekommen hatte und stieß kürzlich online auf die Band. Er kontaktierte sie, um einen Release zu besprechen. Kurz darauf wurden die Masterbänder aufgetrieben, abgestaubt und gemastert. "Self Submission" tritt das Album mit der Unaufdringlichkeit eines Weckers ins Leben, während der letzte Song "Six Feet Down" ein Warnschuss in Richtung eines Lebens ist, das an allen Ecken und Enden über Grenzen gedrückt wird. Dazwischen erforschen THE FACTORY mühelos eine schäbige, drogenlastige und manchmal grandiose Seite der Großstadt. Zwischen dem Disco-angehauchten "Love To Dance" und dem melancholischen "Misfortune Son" vertonen THE FACTORY den rauhen Puls von D.C. -

Iggy & The Stooges - escaped maniacs-Als unbestrittener Vater des Punk erfand IGGY POP den Punk Jahre bevor Johnny Rotten und die SEX PISTOLS 1977 die Charts aufmischten. Die Medien lieben IGGY noch immer, so dass seine Popularität dieser Tage auf einem neuen Hoch angekommen ist. Im Jahre 2006 kam seine ursprüngliche Band, die STOOGES, nach über 30 Jahren nach ihrer Auflösung 1974 wieder zusammen und startete im Rücken ihres neuen Albums "The Weirdness" eine Welttournee. Diese spektakuläre (und wer IGGY jemals live gesehen hat, weiß, dass "spektakulär" bei Mr POP noch einmal deutlich anders definiert wird) Performance wurde 2005 beim Lokerse Festival gefilmt und wartet mit den meisten Tracks der ersten beiden STOOGES Alben sowie den neuen "Skull Ring" und "Dead Rock Star" auf. Von den ersten Noten des Basslaufs von "Loose" an, ist klar, dass die STOOGES über die Jahre hinweg rein gar nichts von ihre rohen Kraft eingebüßt haben. Ohne die STOOGES gäbe es keine SEX PISTOLS, nicht einmal GREEN DAY, doch der Einfluss der Band reichte noch viel weiter als das - durch die 80er hindurch in die 90er und von da ins neue Jahrtausend. Oder um IGGY mit THURSTON MOOREs (SONIC YOUTH) Worten zu beschreiben: "After all this time, he's still at war." (Rolling Stone, April 2005). -

Ian Dury & The Blockheads - sex & drugs & rock & roll
Ian Dury & The Blockheads - sex & drugs & rock & roll-Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll features the music of the late Ian Dury who was a proto-new wave, punk rocker of the 1970s. Having survived polio as a child, Ian encountered difficulties by his limited use of his left leg and arm, but persevered to become a popular recording artist for Stiff Records. He is also credited for creating the popular tagline: Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll, but sadly passed away in 2000 from liver cancer at the age of 57. The album featured here is timed to coincide with the release of director Mat Whitecross' motion picture biopic of Ian Dury's life: Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll. The part of Ian is played by Lord Of The Rings actor Andy Serkis who said Ian was, "...a real poet." The film opens in the U.K. on January 8th, 2010 and will hopefully make its way to the U.S. soon afterwards. Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll contains twenty (20) selections from Ian Dury and the Blockheads which span the years from 1977 to 1981. All the essentials are offered here and the neat part is that we get a rare live version of Spasticus Autisticus and the extended twelve inch versions of the Disco Not Disco styled classics: Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick from 1978 and Reasons To Be Cheerful (Part 3) from 1979. While I haven't had a chance yet to see the movie, listening to this disc is certainly whetting my appetite as the music, especially from that first drum roll of the title track, conveys the sense of quirky song writing and plain good fun we remember from the era.
